The Cardiac Surgery program at Children’s National has a current volume of 600 cases with many national and international referrals of high complexity. The hospital is situated in a park-like setting adjacent to the Washington Hospital Center less than three miles from the US Capitol. Children’s National is affiliated with George Washington University. This is a great opportunity for someone who may be interested in working with the Children’s National Heart Institute Pediatric Cardiac Surgery team. We have an excellent, comprehensive on boarding orientation. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in post-operative pediatric cardiac surgery patients from infancy through early adulthood. Responsibilities include managing the clinical course of cardiac patients on a 26-bed inpatient acute care unit, providing exemplary patient and family experiences, thorough discharge care coordination and planning, contributing to a collaborative work culture, and providing innovative care through quality improvement and research.

There are didactic teaching sessions with all members of the attending medical / surgical and nursing staff. Surgical and medical fellows provide support to the nurse practitioners. Clinical responsibilities include but are not limited to inpatient and outpatient care in cardiac surgery service. Additionally, our department accommodates one of the busiest hybrid programs for high-risk neonates with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

Minimum Requirements

• Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant certification
• Strong interest in pediatric congenital cardiac surgery
• Inpatient pediatric acute care experience is preferred
• Acute care new graduate PNPs with RN acute care experience are welcome to apply
