Susan Schachtner obtained her medical degree at the University of Iowa and her pediatric training and pediatric cardiology fellowship were completed at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC. During her pediatric cardiology fellowship, she undertook basic science research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. Post-fellowship research years were at the Wistar Institute and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, funded by a K08 from the NIH. She transitioned to clinical work in 2003 and is now Medical Director of the Cardiac Care Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she focuses on inpatient quality improvement initiatives as well as teaching; she also remains active in the echocardiography lab and outpatient clinic. She serves as the Chair of the Database Subcommittee for PAC³.
